Partial Payment

Dec 9, 2024

Here's the overview of the feature Partial Payment. As international flights are expensive and users were dropping off at payment. We designed a flow where users can pay a fraction of the fare upfront and pay the rest later.

First touch point

Very similar to how we introduce any new feature, every time a user searches for international flights they will see a modal when they land on the listing page.

Selecting different fare options

When the user selects a flight from the results on listing page, apart from showing the total price, just to make it seem affordable to the user we will show the partial amount which the user has to pay at the time of booking. Of course, to be very transparent to the user, here only we are calling out by when they have to pay the remaining amount and all the inclusions and exclusions.

Showing amount in fare summary

Going forward, when the user lands on the flight review page where they see each and every thing related to the flight they selected we didn't change much here because of the way people perceive this page since long. We carried forward the exact design language and communication which we used earlier to show partial amount under fare summary section.

Allowing for selection

Because all the add-ons (which are non-refundable) like seats, meals etc., will be added in the partial payment amount, we will ask the user at the very end of the flow whether they want to go ahead with full payment or partial payment.

Solving for caveat

Given that we already had the EMI flow live, where the user can pay for the complete flight ticket via EMI, we decided after a lot of stakeholder meetings that we will completely remove the intervention of this feature when the user opts for paying in EMI. The reason being there were a lot of edge cases to be handled and we didn't have much time.
